Peru's First Float Glass Production Line, Built by Twyford

loading... 11 Sep 2026
On September 10, Twyford Peru held a furnace lighting ceremony in San Vicente de Cañete, Cañete Province, Lima Region, Peru. As the flames slowly rose inside the furnace, Peru's first modern float glass production line officially entered a new phase of furnace heating, commissioning and trial production. This milestone marks not only a key step in Twyford International's expansion into South America, but also a breakthrough that built Peru's modern domestic glass-manufacturing industry from scratch.

The ceremony was attended by local government officials, including Mr. Nicolas Oscar Barrera Moran, Governor of the Lima Region, and Mr. Raúl Meza Pacheco, Governor of Cañete Province. General Carlos Manuel Valer, head of the Lima South Police Division, also sent a representative to extend congratulations. Mr. Chao XU, General Manager of Twyford Peru; Mr. Junyang YAN, Plant Manager of the glass factory; other company representatives; and all Chinese and Peruvian employees witnessed this historic moment together.

One Factory, Filling a National Industrial Gap

The Twyford Peru Glass Factory covers approximately 60 hectares and has a designed annual production capacity of 198,090 metric tons. Its product portfolio includes clear, blue and gray float glass, as well as coated glass for architectural applications. Before this project, almost all float glass used in the Peruvian market was imported, while domestic companies were engaged primarily in processing and distribution. The launch of the Twyford Peru Glass Factory will fundamentally change this landscape.

According to Gestión, a leading Peruvian financial news outlet, the project has attracted significant attention from Peru's business community since it was announced. In 2024, the project was recognized by Peru's Ministry of Production as eligible for the RERAIGV program, which provides the early refund of value-added tax, making it a manufacturing investment project supported by the Peruvian government.

From the project's signing and launch in 2023, to receiving government policy support in 2024, and finally to the furnace lighting in 2026, the Twyford Peru team overcame numerous challenges, including a complex international operating environment, cross-border logistics and multilingual collaboration. The project was completed with zero major safety incidents, and the team brought a new landmark in modern manufacturing to South America with "Twyford Speed".

Government and Business United to Build a New Benchmark for China-Peru Cooperation

At the furnace lighting ceremony, Mr. Michael XU, General Manager of Twyford Peru, said that the furnace lighting marked a milestone in Twyford International's expansion into the South American market and a major breakthrough in the upgrading of Peru's building materials industry. He expressed his sincere gratitude to governments at all levels in Peru, local communities, the Group headquarters, all employees and partners for their support. He noted that once the plant begins production, it will help reduce Peru's long-standing reliance on imports of high-end architectural and industrial glass, while supporting the upgrading of the local building materials industry chain.

Mr. Nicolas Oscar Barrera Moran, Governor of the Lima Region, welcomed and thanked Twyford International for choosing the Lima Region as the location for its investment and factory. He spoke highly of the project's positive role in driving regional industrial upgrading and deepening economic and trade cooperation between China and Peru. Mr. Raúl Meza Pacheco, Governor of Cañete Province, expressed his appreciation for Twyford International's continued investment in Cañete Province, noting that the project will provide strong impetus for local industrial and economic development.

A First Step in South America, a Key Move in Twyford's Global Expansion

The furnace lighting and launch of the Twyford Peru Glass Factory is more than a project milestone. It is also a key milestone in Twyford International's global strategy. As Twyford International's first glass factory in South America, the Peru project carries the strategic mission of opening up the South American market and serving as a hub for neighboring countries. Once the plant begins production, its products will serve the Peruvian market and gradually expand into neighboring countries such as Ecuador, Chile and Colombia, bringing Twyford's manufacturing capabilities and product quality to South America.

From Africa to Latin America, and from ceramics to glass, Twyford International continues to expand its international manufacturing footprint. Every new factory that rises from the ground represents another step in putting its "Local Manufacturing, Global Development" strategy into practice. The launch of the Twyford Peru glass plant further strengthens Twyford International's presence in South America and injects new momentum into the Group's global development.

The furnace lighting is only the beginning. Mr. Chao XU, General Manager of Twyford Peru, said that the company will next maintain strict safety standards and steadily advance furnace heating, machinery commissioning, capacity ramp-up and other key activities. Twyford Peru will remain committed to green production and compliant operations, continue to deepen its presence in the local market, and strive to make the project a benchmark for China-Peru economic and trade cooperation and a model manufacturing facility for Peru's building materials industry, contributing to high-quality local economic development with Twyford's strength.

From the western coast of the Pacific to its eastern shore, Twyford International's global journey is turning a new page on the South American continent.
